Virlo AI alternative: free options, pricing and an honest review
Virlo is a capable research platform for short video, and for some teams it is the right buy. Here is what it costs as of October 2026, what its credits actually cover, which free tools do part of the job, and where Followlly fits better (and where it doesn’t).
Virlo’s Starter plan is $49 a month ($34 a month billed yearly, $408 a year) and includes 2,000 credits. Its pricing FAQ puts numbers on those credits. A Content Research Agent run costs 100 credits, tracking a creator costs 15 credits per daily collection, and tracking a video costs 10. That makes 2,000 credits worth about 20 agent runs, or roughly 4 creators tracked every day for a 30-day month (4 × 15 × 30 = 1,800 credits), but not both.
Followlly prices differently. Creator is $29 a month, flat, and includes 5 Instagram or TikTok competitors checked every 3 days. It also runs a niche watch that ranks Reels and TikToks by views per day, refreshed every 7 days. You can see that data without an account: our trend pages currently hold 629 videos from 602 creators across 15 niche samples (updated Oct 2, 2026). Neither product is free. Both have a 7-day trial, and both publish free tools around the paid product. All of them are listed below, along with when Virlo is the better pick.
Virlo at a glance (as of October 2026)
- What it is. Virlo calls itself a social listening and analytics platform for TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels. Its pricing FAQ lists Meta Ads as a fourth source on every plan.

- Who it is for. Virlo pitches Starter at solo operators and freelancers, Pro at growing agencies and teams, and Enterprise at larger teams. It also has pages for TikTok Shop sellers, UGC creators and content clippers.

Virlo pricing (as of October 2026)
Monthly and yearly prices as listed by Virlo. Enterprise is quoted as “from $499/mo” on the plan card and “Custom” in the comparison table.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $49/mo | $34/mo ($408 a year) | 2,000 | Solo operators and freelancers | Content Research Agents, account tracking, outlier detection, hook/format/script analysis, Excel/CSV/JSON exports, API access |
| Pro | $199/mo | $139.30/mo ($1,671.60 a year) | 12,000 | Growing agencies and teams | Everything in Starter, plus 3 team seats and priority support |
| Enterprise | From $499/mo | Custom | 20,000 | Larger teams | 10 team seats, dedicated account manager, API and web app on shared credits |
What 2,000 Starter credits buy
- 20 Content Research Agent runs (100 credits each, one-shot or recurring), or
- 4 creators tracked every day for a month (15 credits per creator per daily collection = 1,800 credits), or
- 6 individual videos tracked every day for a month (10 credits per video per day = 1,800 credits).
Credits reset on your billing date and don’t roll over. Upgrades apply immediately and are prorated, and downgrades apply from the next cycle. Cancelling during the free trial avoids a charge. After that, Virlo says no refunds are issued.

When Virlo is the better choice
- You need YouTube Shorts and Meta ad creatives in the same tool. Followlly covers Reels and TikTok niches and doesn’t research ads.
- You want the data in your own stack. Virlo has an API, an MCP server, webhooks, Zapier and n8n, plus Slack and Discord alerts. Followlly has none of these.
- You need specific creators or videos checked every day. Virlo collects tracked items daily. Followlly checks competitors every 2–3 days depending on the plan.
- You are an agency or research team that values breadth. Virlo says it tracks 20,000+ creators daily. Followlly’s niche samples are smaller and focused on one niche at a time.
- You sell on TikTok Shop. Virlo has dedicated TikTok Shop analytics. Followlly doesn’t.
When Followlly is the better choice
- You want a flat price instead of a credit budget. Creator is $29/month with 5 competitors and the full niche watch included.
- You work on Instagram Reels and TikTok. One niche feed for both, ranked by views per day, with the sounds that actually play in it.
- You want to know what to film next, not just what exists. Content DNA breaks a breakout down to its portable mechanic, and AI writes scripts that cite your own numbers.
- You want your own videos judged fairly. Each video is compared with your typical video at the same age, so a post still growing isn’t called a flop.
- You don’t want to share a password. Accounts and competitors connect by public handle.

Switching from Virlo to Followlly
- Export first. Virlo exports to Excel, CSV and JSON. Pull the list of creators you track.
- Time the switch. Virlo credits reset monthly and don’t roll over, and there are no refunds after the trial. Switch near the end of a billing cycle.
- Start the 7-day trial and paste your handles. The trial runs on the plan you pick. Producer takes up to 15 Instagram or TikTok competitors.
- Pick your niche. The niche feed, sounds and search trends fill in on their own.
- Run both for a week if you’re unsure. Count which tool led to a video you actually filmed, then keep that one.
