6 of the 30 US tags are discovery tags like #fyp and #foryou. They sit near the top because so many videos carry them, which is also why they say nothing about who a video is for. In TikTok’s US trending feed itself, 11 of 40 videos carry #fyp, #foryou or a variant — so 29 got there without them, 10 with no hashtags at all. Discovery tags averaged 1.8M views per scanned video against 1.3M for topic tags, but that reflects how widely they are used, not what they do for a single video.
