Trending hashtags by niche for TikTok and Instagram Reels
70 niche hashtags top creators add to their videos, from 469 TikToks and Reels with 10K+ views posted in the last 21 days across 8 niches. The most-used across niches: #makeup, on 19 top videos.
Updated Oct 3, 2026 · based on 469 videos · How we measure
Each niche sample is collected through a few hashtags — for fitness, #homeworkout, #gymtok and #workoutmotivation. Every video in a sample carries one of them by definition, so they are left out of the counts below; what is left is what creators add on their own. Generic tags like #fyp, #viral or #reels are left out too: 16% of these videos carry one, but they say nothing about who a video is for. The median top video uses 5 hashtags in total, so a short, accurate set is normal.
How to use it: find your niche, take one broad tag and two or three specific ones that genuinely match your video, and check the niche page to see the top videos using them. For the US TikTok scan with views per tag see trending hashtags on TikTok; for Reels by niche see Instagram Reels hashtags.

Most-used hashtags across every niche
Tags on at least three top videos, not counting the tags each sample is collected through, with how many videos used them and their combined views.
Across 469 top TikToks and Reels in our niche samples, the most-used tags (besides the ones each sample is collected through) were #makeup (19), #beautytips (15), #skincare (15), #hairstyle (12) and #gym (12). Niche tags say who a video is for; generic ones don’t.
Are TikTok hashtags different from Instagram hashtags?
Partly. In our samples #makeup and #beautytips show up on top videos on both platforms, while the generic tags differ (#fyp on TikTok, #reels or #explore on Instagram). Neither set of generic tags describes your video, so lean on niche tags on both.
How many hashtags should I use?
The median top video in our samples uses 5 hashtags. Pick a few accurate tags over a long generic list.
Where do these hashtags come from?
From the captions of public TikToks and Reels with 10K+ views, posted in the last 21 days. Each niche sample is collected through a few hashtags (listed under each niche); those, generic tags (#fyp, #viral, #reels and similar) and tags that fewer than two creators use are left out of the lists.
